Small Bathroom Ideas

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house.  Next to the bedroom, it’s the one room that’s sure to be used on a daily basis.  After all, the bathroom is good for various day-to-day functions – it’s where people take showers and bubble baths, where they take care of their hygiene, and where they go through their beauty regimens.  In designing a house, therefore, it’s important to design the bathroom as a fully functional space that is conducive for everything that needs to be accomplished there.

Space is an Issue

Sometimes it seems as if designing a bathroom is a no-brainer.  In actuality though, designing a bathroom is not as simple as it looks, especially if the space is limited.  Small bathrooms are harder to design because every square foot counts.  Unlike a large space where you can afford to take liberties in the layout, when it comes to small bathrooms a lot of things have to be sacrificed for the sake of space.  Having to work with limited space comes as some sort of challenge to homeowners, because with a small bathroom it’s usually just a toilet, a sink, and either a tiny shower cubicle or an even tinier bathtub.  The homeowner will have to make certain adjustments and think of small bathroom ideas that can create as much moving space as possible.

Maximizing the Space

There are several small bathroom ideas that can help maximize the limited space homeowners are working with.  Here are some of them:

  • Use lighter colors to paint the bathroom because they will create the illusion of space.
  • Attach a large wall mirror on one side of the bathroom because it can make any space look so much bigger than it really is.
  • Consider using a sliding door instead of a swinging door to maximize the space.
  • It’s better to place the toilet, shower, and sink on one side of the bathroom wall.
  • Instead of a bathtub, place a small shower cubicle to save on space.  If you really want a bathtub, make it into a shower and a bathtub combo instead of breaking the two.
  • Consider using a frameless shower.
  • Use a space-saving toilet and a small basin for your sink.

Why Choose a Small Basin

Using a small basin is one of the many small bathroom ideas that people can follow in order to save space.  Come to think of it, a sink doesn’t really have to be big to fulfill its purpose.  It just needs to be big enough for people to wash their hands and face, as well as brush their teeth.  Small basins save on a lot of space compared to using large bathroom sinks.  The space that you can save by simply choosing a small basin can be used for other things like an additional cabinet or drawer.  It can even be left empty to create more moving space and prevent the small bathroom from being so crowded.
